Available Program Options

Roots & Rhythms has been offering area schools and organizations a variety of drum-making and playing programs since 2008, thanks to an award from the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division. This world music, percussion based, educational program covers a broad spectrum of music from around the world; brings guest artists from the community into the classroom; and offers field trips and the opportunity to create a socially themed public performance piece for students in our Teaching Artist Residency programs.

Roots & Rhythms offers three primary programming options with teaching materials where applicable:

K-5th School Assemblies
  •         Educational Assemblies
  •         Interactive Team Building Assemblies

60- and 90-minute Special Workshops
  •         Fundamentals of Rhythm and Sound with basic Science of               Sound module
  •         Instrument-making utilizing found objects and recyclables

Teaching Artist Residencies
  •         Semester-long, after school programming; meets STAAR                     requirements in math, science, geography, and music
  •         Sample curriculum available
