Roots & Rhythms has been offering area schools and organizations a variety of drum-making and playing programs since 2008, thanks to an award from the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division. This world music, percussion based, educational program covers a broad spectrum of music from around the world; brings guest artists from the community into the classroom; and offers field trips and the opportunity to create a socially themed public performance piece for students in our Teaching Artist Residency programs.
Roots & Rhythms offers three primary programming options with teaching materials where applicable:
K-5th School Assemblies
Educational Assemblies
Interactive Team Building Assemblies
60- and 90-minute Special Workshops
Fundamentals of Rhythm and Sound with basic Science of Sound module
Instrument-making utilizing found objects and recyclables
Teaching Artist Residencies
Semester-long, after school programming; meets STAAR requirements in math, science, geography, and music
